Founded on February 23, 1961 by engineer José Corgosinho de Carvalho Filho, Ferbasa began operating in the town of Campo Formoso (state of Bahia) as a mining company with the purpose of producing chrome ore. It is the largest producer of ferrochrome alloys in Brazil and the sole integrated producer in the Americas, and its operations include mining, reforestation and metallurgy.
