[ferro-alloys.com] Erdemir Group, Turkey's largest integrated steel producer, said Monday it had not bid for British Steel.

Reports by international media that Erdemir "made an offer for the acquisition of British Steel" were wrong, it said.

"Our company has no relationship with the company in question," it said.

British Steel, which went into compulsory liquidation on May 22, is the second-largest UK steelmaker with about 3 million mt/year of production capacity in the UK, France and the Netherlands.

Erdemir produced 3.38 million mt of crude steel at its Eregli steelworks (Erdemir) in 2018, while its larger Iskenderun (Isdemir) works produced 5.8 million mt. The group's Eregli works produces HRC, CRC and galvanized coils, plate and tinplate. The Isdemir works produces billet, wire rod and HRC.
