Swedish H2GS will build the world’s second non-fossil energy plant
Recently, Sweden’s new green steel H2Green Steel (H2GS) issued a statement announcing the construction of a non-fossil energy steel plant in Boden, near the northern Swedish city of Luleo, which will be the second non-fossil energy steel plant after the completion of Sweden’s first non-fossil energy steel plant in 2020. The steel plant will double Sweden’s steel production and further decarbonize the country's steel production and operation.
The plant, which is scheduled to start production in 2024 and achieve annual production capacity of 5 million tons of high-quality steel by 2030, is expected to create 1500 direct jobs locally, increasing Sweden’s net export value by SEK 30 billion ($3.627 billion).
The plant plans to use local hydropower resources to replace the traditional coal-fired coke oven with a new production process based on hydrogen. Hydrogen will be supplied by a specific integrated production plant, H2GS said the plant is expected to become Europe’s largest renewable energy power plant. In addition to renewable energy, there are also high-quality iron ore resources, large ports, metals and mining in the world's top companies and research institutions.
