ASX-listed Antilles Gold (ASX:AAU) has begun a diamond drilling program on the underlying porphyry system at its El Pilar copper-gold deposit in central Cuba. 

The company says it has so far completed about 2,000m of the initial 7,000m program across the gold-copper oxide zone in the area.

The program is focused on the El Pilar copper-gold porphyry intrusive outlined by recent ground magnetics and Induced Polarisation (IP) surveys. 

Antilles notes the IP surveys highlighted ‘large’ porphyry intrusives at the adjacent Gaspar and Camilo zones, which will be subject to a drilling program once El Pilar is completed. 

The company expects initial assays from the oxide drilling next week. 

Antilles Gold is an Australian mining exploration company focused on discovering ‘major’ copper deposits in Cuba. 

The company’s portfolio of projects includes the El Pilar Copper-Gold Porphyry system and the La Demajagua open-pit mine.
