【Ferro-alloys.com】: Indonesia is planning to reduce the RKAB mining quota period from three years back to one year starting from 2026, said Indonesia's energy and mineral resources (ESDM) minister Bahlil Lahadalia in parliament today.

The current RKAB system approves a quota for three years, longer than the previous period of one year.

But the Indonesia government is considering cutting the issuance period back to a year. This comes as it tries to address oversupply and price volatility issues and to increase its control over raw mineral supplies.

The ESDM has approved a total of 296.1mn t and 261.4mn t nickel RKAB for 2025 and 2026, respectively, so far this year. It remains unclear what will happen to the quota that has been approved for 2026.

The ESDM has approved an RKAB for thermal coal at 917.2mn t for 2025, slightly lower than the 922.1mn t accepted in the 2024 work plan. But actual coal output is typically below RKAB approval levels. The country has set an output target of 739.7mn t for 2025.

The country's coal output reached 834.1mn t in 2024, against a target of 710mn t.
