[Ferro-alloys.com]Indian Metals & Ferro Alloys (IMFA), an integrated producer of value-added ferro chrome, has commissioned the second unit of its 2x60MW captive power plant (CPP) at Choudwar, Odisha.

The plant has been set up at a cost of about Rs 600 crore. IMFA has a production capacity of 2.75 lakh tonne.

The first unit of 60MW went online in January. With the synchronisation of the second unit with the grid, the company’s captive power generation capacity now stands at 258 MW.

The generation will primarily cater to IMFA’s captive requirement for its ferro chrome production. However, in the short term, there will be some surplus which will be sold to the grid/ third-parties, the company said.

Subhrakant Panda, Managing Director, said, “Our captive generation capacity has nearly doubled and we now have the headroom to expand our ferro alloys smelting capacity which is under consideration.”
