State-owned CIL produced 31.68 million tonnes of dry fuel in August, missing its target of 32.73 mt.

The company also missed its offtake target of 35.54 mt during the month. Coal India’s actual offtake in August was 35.10 mt, the PSU said in a filing with the BSE.

However, no reasons were given by the company for missing both the output and offtake target.

Against the output target of 173.04 mt in the first five months of the current fiscal, CIL produced 167.3 mt of coal, the company said.

The company’s offtake from April to August was 188.57 mt, while the target was 192.4 mt, the company added.

Coal India had also marginally missed its output target for July by 2 per cent, producing 32.77 million tonnes of dry-fuel during the month.

CIL, which accounts for over 80 per cent of the domestic production, contributed 452.5 mt of coal in the previous financial year, compared with the target of 464 mt.

The Coal Ministry has set a production target of 482 mt and offtake of 492 mt for CIL for 2013-14.

The shares of CIL were trading at Rs 256.15 apiece in the afternoon trade on BSE, up 2.26 per cent from its previous close.
